Dear Parents,
Welcome! For some of you this is a welcome back, and for some of you it is
a welcome to the wonderful world of band. Last year was a very successful
first school year for the Huntington Middle School Band. The seventh and
eighth grade bands received Excellent and Superior ratings at the GMEA Large
Group Performance Evaluations. The Jazz Band performed for Governor Perdue
at the HMS dedication ceremony, the opening ceremonies for the new Wal-mart,
the March of Dimes, and at the Perry National Fair. We had four students
that were selected for the GMEA District Eleven Honor Band, one student
selected for the Georgia Southwest Regional Honor Band, and fourteen sixth
grade students selected for the GMEA District Eleven “1st Year”
Honor Band.
We are looking to soar higher during the 2006-2007 school year. Some of our
goals are: To have at least 10 students in the District Honor band. To
have at least 5 students make it through to the second round of All-state
Band Auditions. To improve each student’s individual
musicianship. We will also be integrating the use of two software
titles in the classroom to teach and reinforce basic music theory concepts.
You can help us reach our goals by making sure that your child practices
regularly at home. Music is a skill that is only developed through time and
effort.
Please read through the Band Handbook, and have your child return the
signature forms. The HMS Band Boosters will have their first meeting of the
year on August 10, 2006 at 6:30 PM in the band room. Officer elections will
be held at this meeting.
Your support will help your child soar!
Sincerely,
Mr. Christiansen
